Short history

Our Unawatuna Diving Centre was opened in 1999 and was PADI accredited in 2005 as a PADI Dive Resort. It was the first PADI Diving Centre in Unawatuna to operate professionally on this stunning south coast of Sri Lanka. In 2016 was upgraded into the PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Resort, setting the standard for the best diving in Unawatuna. In 2021, it was reconstructed under the new brand Divinguru®, continuing our legacy of excellence.
We share our diving passion through PADI Courses, Fun Dives and Beginner Try Diving programs designed for all skill levels who want to experience diving in Unawatuna.

Equipment

We have around 30 complete sets of rental dive equipment, mainly ScubaPro (BCD, Regulator, Mask, Fins, Belts, Weight) of all different sizes in the stock. Everything is of high quality and well maintained. We offer a wide variety of gear so people of all statures and ages will find something that suits them perfectly for PADI diving in Unawatuna.

Facilities

Divinguru Unawatuna is located directly on the beautiful Unawatuna beach – the ideal spot for those seeking the best diving in Unawatuna.
Our diving centre has inside and outside sitting areas, an equipment room, a private equipment room, a classroom for teaching courses, a compressor room, an office area, a kitchen, a shower area and a toilet. We have a large cleaning basin for the equipment and shady area for drying it.

Boats & Engines

Our 7 diving boats are powered by environmentally friendly four stroke 40 Horsepower Yamaha engines, with a roof and shade available.

Every boat has a capacity of maximum 5 divers and one dive guide (Divemaster or Dive Instructor), ensuring small group experiences for safe and enjoyable diving in Unawatuna.

Safety first

Customer safety is our main priority! Our dive briefings cover all safety and standard procedures. In addition, our diving base has a stationary Oxygen Supply and portable DAN Systems that are available on our diving boats. The boat guides, diving guides and Dive Instructors are all trained in first aid assistance. The crew often practice Rescue Trainings which you can also be a part of on request.

Our PADI Diving Centres in Unawatuna and elsewhere are fully  insured under the PADI Group PRRA Combined Liability insurance Insured for Public Liability, Product Liability and Professional Liability. We are the ONLY Diving Operator in Sri Lanka who provides this high -level insurance cover  for every guest and dive profesional. Learn more about our Dive Centre Insurance.

Additionally all our PADI Dive Instructors and PADI Divemasters have also have their own PADI Professional Dive Insurance.

BAUER compressors

First class compressors (made by BAUER, Germany) speedy fill our hundred 12 L Aluminium Diving Tanks with DIN or INT connectors. We change oil, air and oil filters regularly as well as the filter cartridges to ensure outstanding purification of breathing air.

For children we provide four 8 L Aluminium Diving Tanks. We also offer NITROX (Enriched Air) free of charge – another reason why PADI diving in Unawatuna with Divinguru stands out.

Free Pick-up & Drop Off

We offer free pick up between the distance from Hikkaduwa to Mirissa. (Hikkaduwa, Boossa, Gintota, Galle, Unawatuna, Dalawella, Mihripenna, Talpe, Habaraduwa, Koggala, Ahangama, Midigama, Weligama, Mirissa)

Pick-up starts approximately 30-60 minutes (or depending on the distance) before check-in in our diving centre in Unawatuna.

How to find us

Meeting instructions

Divinguru Unawatuna is located 5 kilometers south of Galle at the main road, A2, next to the restaurants “Summer Garden” and “Banana Garden”, beachside, at the end of Unawatuna in direction to the south.

Our Unawatuna Diving Centre is located right on the Matara Road. From the road you can see clearly our signs. Look out for our Divinguru logo and PADI number S – 36133, only then you are at the right dive center. If you are coming by Tuk-Tuk, please ask for the “Original Unawatuna Diving Centre” with Hans the owner. Most drivers are familiar with the name Hans.

Frequently asked questions

How can I get from the Airport to Unawatuna?
1) By Car or Van arranged by us
 
You can book with us a transfer from the International Airport in Colombo or from Colombo City
or any other destination in Sri Lanka through the Online Booking Form on our website. For 2 people with an AC Car with a driver from Colombo Airport or Colombo City costs 70 Euro one way. Any additional person from the age of 12 years old 5 Euro on top of the 70 Euro.
 
2) By Car or Van at the Airport
 
After your arrival at the International Airport in Colombo, you will find at the arrival hall of the airport 4 or 5 booths with a car rental service. They provide transport (car with driver) to any destination in Sri Lanka with a fixed rate.
 
3) By Bus
 
Option A
 
From Colombo Airport you can take a bus to the Colombo Fort Private Bus Station. From there
running permanently busses to the Galle Bus Station. The ticket per person cost around 2 Euro only.
 
For Tuk Tuk transfers from Galle to Unawatuna take a Tuk Tuk directly at the Galle Railway Station.
It cost around 500 to 600 Sri Lanka Rupee one way.
 

Option B

From Colombo Airport you can take a bus to the Colombo Fort Private Bus Station. From there

take a bus, a Tuk Tuk or an UBER car (you can download the APP on arrival) and go to Makumbura
Bus Station in Kotawa close to the Southern Highway. It takes around 30 to 45 minutes depending
on the traffic and cost around by UBER car (recommended) 6 Euro. From Makumbura Bus Station running busses to Galle Bus Station around every 20 minutes. 
It cost around 2.50 Euros.
 
For Tuk Tuk transfers from Galle to Unawatuna take a Tuk Tuk directly at the Galle Railway Station.
It cost around 2,50 Euro to 3 Euro one way.
4) By Train
 
There are also daily trains from the Colombo Fort Railway Station to Galle Railway Station.
The ticket per person costs around 1 Euro to 150 Euro one way only.

Is it better to dive in the morning or afternoon?

We recommend mornings as the sea is calmer and conditions are better for PADI diving in Unawatuna. However we always check the forecast so we can advise you on the best time.

What is the best dive site in Unawatuna?

The main attractions when diving in Unawatuna and in Sri Lanka are a lot of wrecks around the coast line suitable for all diving levels. We offer diving at the famous wreck “SS RANGOON” that goes down to 30 meters, the Wreck SS Orestes that goes down to 22 meters, and the Galle Ship Wreck at around 18 meters.

Do you offer accommodation?

You can find many good hotels on the south coast. Also we offer free pick-up from your hotel.
